SIS is currently trialling the 'new breed' of Wi-Fi hand held computers in the form of Symbol Technologies PPT-88xx Pocket PC. This robust and extremely versatile HHT runs on Windows Mobile 2003 and operates over an IEEE 802.11b/g 11Mbps network. These units provide a significant improvement over the more traditional hand held terminal. Small, rugged and packed with power; the PPT-88xx from Symbol Technologies combines superior data capture capability and wireless communications in a rugged handheld computer that is the smallest and lightest device in its class. SIS is excited by the development possibilities available with this new technology and are working closely with a local distribution company Design Objectives to trial these units alongside the existing Genesis hand-held devices. This enables warehouse staff access to the system from where ever they are in the warehouse, without the need to visit a workstation. All stock transactions are instantly updated on the system making the accuracy of stock real-time. This solution will also assist with the implementation of a Perpetual Inventory (PI) solution.
